metabolic acidosis

This is where acid from the body has built up in the system OR bicarbonate has been lost in excess.

There are two types of metabolic acidosis:

NAGMA-or normal anion gap metabolic acidosis–this is usually due to excessive loss of bicarbonate from the GI tract or kidney failure. It is also known as hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis. Read more.
